Hythe Town coach Will Graham: I believe the team that holds their nerves the better will be the team’s that get into those play-off spots

Monday 21st March 2016

HYTHE TOWN coach Will Graham says the club’s offer of admitting everybody for £1 tonight is a great gesture.

The Cannons go into tonight’s home game against 18th placed Walton Casuals in the top five in the Ryman League Division One South table on 72 points from 39 games.

It has been a rather hectic period for Clive Cook’s side.  Last Thursday night they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Hastings United before bouncing back with a 1-0 win over Three Bridges at the weekend, with Frankie Sawyer getting the only goal of the game.

“Playing a resilient Three Bridges was always going to be a tough game and tonight’s game against Walton Casuals being our third game in six days,” said Graham.

“On Saturday, we were a little walking wounded but the character and the quality this team has, got us over the line with all three points and pushed us back in the play-offs.

“The gaffer has rotated the squad as we are trying to be as fresh as we can going in to games and again on Saturday proved the strength we have is key as whoever we put in do what’s required and we move on to the next game.”

Walton Casuals are a big and powerful defensive unit and they arrive on the Kent coast having collected 45 points from their 38 league games.

All fans can watch the game for just £1 and Graham said: “In for a Quid is a great gesture from the club and we hope we get a good turn out, as it’s not easy for clubs to do things like this, so they need to be supported.

“We know playing Walton Casuals they can beat anyone on their day and we all know that we need to perform at our very best to take all three points.”

With sixth-placed Hastings travelling to ninth-placed Molesey tonight, a win for Hythe Town will take them above Worthing and Faversham Town into third-place going into the busy Easter campaign.

The Canons travel to Molesey on Easter Saturday, before hosting Ramsgate on Easter Monday – with these two clubs having faint play-off hopes.

“I don’t really wish to look ahead to any particular games as our next focus is on tonight’s game and then when that’s completed we will then shift our focus on Molesey on Saturday,” said Graham, who started the season in charge of Whitstable Town.

“What I will say is what a fantastic end of season it will be with several teams all fighting for the play-off places and I believe the team that holds their nerves the better will be the team’s that get into those spots, as everyone can drop points between now and the end of the season.”

League leaders Folkestone Invicta will claim the league title with a home win over third-from-bottom side Walton & Hersham at Cheriton Road on Good Friday (15:00) – admission for that game has been reduced to £5.

Dorking Wanderers have cemented second-place on 80 points from 40 games, while Worthing (74 points from 39 games), Faversham Town (73 points from 40) and Hythe Town occupy the play-off spots at present.

Hastings United (70 points from 38), Herne Bay (69 points from 39), Corinthian-Casuals (67 points from 40), Molesey (67 points from 39) and Ramsgate (64 points from 39 games) all have a say who will join Neil Cugley’s Folkestone Invicta in the Ryman Premier League next season.
