We have to be at our very best to get something out of the Herne Bay game, says Hythe Town assistant Darren Beale

HYTHE TOWN assistant manager Darren Beale admits his side put in a poor performance at South Park.

The Cannons opened their new Ryman League Division One South campaign with a 1-0 defeat in Surrey.

Beale was in charge of the side as manager Tim Dixon is away on holiday.

“The defeat on Saturday came after a poor performance from us,” said Beale.

“No stand out performances from any Hythe players’ and the game always looked to be heading for a draw until Dan Eason came to clear a long ball forward only to be beaten in the air and the ball was headed into an empty net.

“Not enough chances were created by us and a very disappointing start to this year’s campaign.”

Hythe Town will be looking to bounce back with the annual second match clash against Herne Bay.

Sam Denly’s side arrive at Reachfields Stadium on the back of their opening 3-1 home win over Sittingbourne, courtesy of two goals from highly-rated England schoolboy international Elliot Cutts and James Turner.

“Tuesday will be against tougher opposition than Saturday’s in the form of Herne Bay and we will have to be at our very best to get something from the game,” said Beale.

“Elliot Cutts will be a real threat for them as well as Mark Lovell.”

Hythe Town will pay tribute to Henry Fulcher, 18, who sadly lost his life following a car accident last week.

“The passing of Henry Fulcher last week has had a devastating effect on all the Hythe players, staff, management and board, as well as our under 18s who he was involved with last season,” said Beale.

“Henry was one of the nicest people you could meet and had the potential to go far in the game.

“The gaffer and I had high expectations of him in what would have been his first full season at senior level.

“Before Tuesday evening’s game, players from both sides will line up around the centre circle and observe a minute’s silence.

“Our under 18s squad will also form a line in front of the main stand and any other friends and relatives and football officials are invited to join us.”
