HORSHAM YMCA have appointed former Croydon boss Liam Giles as their new manager.

The West Sussex based club are in fourteenth-place in the Southern Combination League Premier Division table, having picked up 19 points (five wins, four draws and eight defeats) from their 17 league outings.

“We are very pleased to welcome Liam to the YM football family at Gorings Mead,” said a club statement.

“Liam comes to us with both playing and managerial experience and we’re really looking forward to working with him to progress the club to where we want to be.”

Giles added: “I’m thrilled to be joining YM!  As an ambitious person, I’m eager to see the club do well and to create the culture and good environment to stabilise the team by Christmas and move upwards from there.”

Giles has appointed Aaron Bogle as his assistant manager.

Giles guided Southern Counties East Football League First Division side Croydon to two cup finals last season, losing 3-2 to Erith Town in the Kent Senior Trophy Final in Maidstone last April, before claiming the London Senior Trophy with a 1-0 win over Wimbledon Casuals just three days later in Carshalton.

Giles’ first game in charge is a trip to sixteenth-placed Pagham on Saturday and they are 13 points adrift of the play-off zone in the ninth-tier division.
