We have climbed the league very well in a very short space of time, says Holmesdale joint-manager Lee Roots

HOLMESDALE joint-manager Lee Roots says he is delighted with the way his club have climbed the league table since taking over alongside Tony Beckingham.

The Bromley based outfit are sitting in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division, collecting 27 points from their 17 league outings.

Reflecting on their 3-1 home win over Meridian last weekend, Roots said: “I was very happy with the way we performed for parts, especially in the first half where we dominated and maintained possession very well for long periods.

“We scored some very nice goals and collected a well-deserved three points against Meridian, who are a decent footballing side.

“I feel that their league position (thirteenth) probably does not reflect them as a team and like I said, we was happy with the overall outcome of the game.”

Holmesdale make the trip to Aylesford tomorrow to tackle league leaders K Sports, who are sitting a point clear of Punjab United with 41 points from 17 games.

“We have another tough game for us tomorrow.  I know Kris Browning there well from our times going up against each other in the County Leagues and he’s done a great job there on and off the field,” said Roots.

“Listen, they’re top side, and have started the season very strong. We played them only just under four weeks ago in the first fixture between us and we won that game 4-2 at our gaff.

“They play on a 3G pitch, which comes with its own challenge in itself but we've been in some great form, we’re second in the form guide I think and have had a very good week of training sessions preparing for Saturday’s game which everyone involved at the club is looking forward too.

“When myself and Becks took over only 10 weeks ago and we were 14th in the league. We are now joint 5th in the table and have climbed the league very well in a very short space of time.

“We have our goals and targets for the season which the players are well drilled on, and we will look to achieve them this season.

“To be honest with you we're not really looking too much into league positions. Anyone can beat anyone on their day in this league and we operate by going game by game, month by month.

“It's a busy Christmas schedule, exactly how I would like it, with no weekends off in the month of December. We will set up and prepare well for the games ahead and then you assess where you are at in the new year.

“January then starts to give a true league reflection on who the top four or five teams will be, come the end of the season.

“We will keep our heads down, go quietly about our business week on week just as we have been.

“If you’re in the area come and support The Dalers in what should be a top game and great advert for the Southern Counties East Football Leagues.”
