We'll be working hard to keep our position at the top of the table, says Hollands & Blair boss Paul Piggott

HOLLANDS & BLAIR manager Paul Piggott says his main focus is to keep their noses in front in the title race.

The Gillingham based outfit are leading the Southern Counties East Football League, having collected 18 wins, 5 draws and 3 defeats.

They are six points clear of big-spending Greenwich Borough, who have two games in hand but Blair have a better goal-difference.

James McDonald has scored 28 goals this season and he is followed by Rob Denness (17) and Stuart West (14) in the club’s scoring ranks.

Blair are enjoying a great debut season and winning has become a habit having claimed back-to-back Kent Invicta League titles.

They lost 3-2 to Corinthian but bounced back with a 3-0 home win over Deal Town in midweek to go into the weekend still in pole position.

“We were back to winning ways against a good Deal side Wednesday evening and for me in comfortable style,” said Piggott.

“We've dropped some silly points over the last few games because we've not worked as hard as we normally do and not been as clinical in front of goal.

“But all sides in this league will go through spells like that and we've had ours, the lads had put a 15 game run together before losing to Corinthian last Saturday so it's time for us to focus on another run and keep our noses in front.

“The points we have dropped over the last few weeks, we're still top so that's a positive for us.

Erith Town host Hollands & Blair tomorrow and the Dockers confirmed today that they will be playing their home games at VCD Athletic’s Oakwood ground in Crayford at the beginning of next season.

The reason for their move is that league rivals Greenwich Borough have secured a 30-year lease to play at Badgers Sports Ground at Middle Park Avenue in Eltham, the home of Cray Valley (Paper Mills).

However, the pitch has suffered through waterlogging on regular basis so The Dockers can look forward to playing on a pristine playing surface next season.

Piggott said: “We go to Erith Town on Saturday and I know Martin (Ford) from old and he doesn’t turn up for a match to lose so they’ll be up for the challenge as will our boys.

“We’ll be working hard to get the three points and keep our position at the top of the table.”
