Hessenthaler re-signs local hero

DOVER ATHLETIC have unveiled that Jake Leberl has returned to the club following his release from AFC Wimbledon, writes Justin Allen.
The popular local boy, who used to play for the Whites back in their Conference days, has signed a one-year deal at Crabble.

Leberl left the club following their relegation into the Southern League, but he was always been a Whites fan and is delighted to be back.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler, speaking to www.doverathletic.com yesterday, said: "I saw Jake play when he was at Dagenham. He's a good player and a decent centre half, despite not being the tallest.

"He's also very versatile and can slot in at right back and play in midfield if asked too. He's a great addition to our squad."

Chairman Jim Parmenter said: "Jake is a quality defender. He's a more experienced player than the one who left Crabble - and is going to be a superb addition to our squad.

"I know him very well and it's a thrill for us to have him back here."

Meanwhile, Hessenthaler would like to state that he has not had any contact with Watford regarding their managerial vacancy - despite recent speculation.

Some bookmakers stopped taking bets on the Whites boss taking over from Brendan Rodgers after optimistic punters took up the general 20-1 odds on offer for the ex-Watford player.

But Hess said: "I've definitely had no contact from Watford and neither have the club.

"I haven't a clue why people have been betting on me so much. Maybe 20-1 odds for a former player who has managed at Championship level looks a good price on paper."
