Tommy Warrilow to bring a Select XI down to Herne Bay to help Lee Browning
HERNE BAY have announced a Testimonial match for Lee Browning, who was airlifted to hospital after a clash of heads during a Ryman League Division One South game against Ramsgate.
Whilst the initial scan is reported not to have shown any issues, a subsequent consultation with a specialist neurologist resulted in the midfielder being given the sad news that he will not be able to play any contact sport again for fear of brain damage and loss of sight.
Until the result of a further scan is known it has also meant that Lee is unable to drive and continue his business as a self-employed carpenter.
Having already donated the proceeds of one match to the Kent, Sussex and Surrey air ambulance for their sterling work in getting Browning to hospital, Herne Bay Football Club are now in the process of organising a Testimonial Match which will be at Winch’s Field on Sunday 15th May 2016 (13:00) against a Tommy Warrilow Select XI.
Herne Bay manager Sam Denly told the club website: “When Tommy phoned me, he was as shocked as all of us at what had happened to Lee and asked if there was anything he could do to help.
“Tommy Warrilow is a highly respected non-league manager and led Tonbridge Angels, for whom Lee once played, for several seasons.
“He came up with the idea of a testimonial and Tommy will pull a side together to play Herne Bay at Winch’s.
“For want of a better name we will call it a Tommy Warrilow Select XI.
“I have no doubt Tommy will attract some name players for this and that is will be a terrific testimonial game for Lee.”
Herne Bay Football Club are also delighted to announce that match officials have already been appointed for the game who will be waiving their normal fees and expenses.
