HERNE Bay begin the search for a new manager after Sam Denly, 33, announced today that he will be stepping down from his position after the final league game of the season at Whyteleafe on Saturday.

Herne Bay travel to Church Road knowing that they can only finish in seventeenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table and go into Denly’s final game in charge with 51 points on the board after 45 league games.

The Winch’s Field outfit are a comfortable 21 points above the relegation zone, which consists of relegated trio Chatham Town, Three Bridges (29 points) and Godalming Town (24).

“Denly has been in charge of the Ryman League Division One South side for four years and took his team to within touching distance of the play-offs in 2015-16,” said a club statement.

“He has said it had been one of the hardest decisions he had to make and he was very proud at being given the chance to manage at Herne Bay and proud of what had been achieved.

“Herne Bay Football Club would like to thank Sam for his efforts at the football club and what he has achieved. The club wishes him well for the future.”
