Haworth turns down lucrative offer to stay with Darts

Friday 07th November 2008

DARTFORD boss Tony Burman received some good and bad news concerning his players ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Harrow Borough.

The Darts earned a trip to Blue Square South side St Albans City in the final qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy following their impressive 4-2 victory up at Oxford City in midweek.

Burman, speaking to www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk, revealed some player news ahead of their trip to Earlsmead.

“I have some good news and some bad news that I have received this week,” said Burman.

“The bad news is that after a long discussion with Eddie McClements it is very unlikely, due to further work commitments, that he will be returning to play for us this season.

“Eddie will stay registered with the club and if things change he will return - if possible.

“The good news is that we received a seven-day approach from another Ryman Premier club for the services of (striker) Rob Haworth.

“I am delighted to tell you although the offer exceeded any offer that we could make to him, Rob has turned down the move and has decided to stay with us.”

Burman also revealed that Danny Barber, who suffered a heartbreaking cruciate ligament and cartilage damage inside the opening minute of his Dartford debut, will go in for an operation on Tuesday.

Steve Norman trained last night for the first time since his operation and may get a second string run out tomorrow and Ray Powell, who missed Tuesday’s Trophy win, has been added to the squad for their trip to struggling Harrow Borough.

Alex O’Brien and James Taylor, meanwhile, have been sent on loan to Ryman League Division One North strugglers Chatham Town.
