Greenwich Borough pull off major transfer coup by signing goalkeeper Craig Holloway

Friday 23rd May 2014
GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Ian Jenkins has pulled off a major transfer coup by enticing former Arsenal goalkeeper Craig Holloway to sign for the club.

Holloway, 29, started last season as joint player-manager at Ryman Premier League side Margate (alongside Simon Osborn) until the club brought in former AFC Wimbledon boss Terry Brown.

However, just before the transfer deadline, Holloway moved to Conference Premier side Dartford as their back-up goalkeeping in an attempt to keep Tony Burman’s side in the division, but the Darts’ two-year spell in the top flight of non-league football came to an end last month.

The former Arsenal trainee, who was part of the Welling United side that lost the Conference South play-off final to Dartford in 2012, has previously had spells at Bromley, Braintree Town, Chelmsford City, Ebbsfleet United, Southend United and Farnborough.

A club statement said: “Greenwich Borough are delighted to announce Craig Holloway as Ian Jenkins assembles a team to make a concerted challenge for the Southern Counties East League title.

“The signing of Craig Holloway is a great coup for the club!”

Jenkins has also enticed Jamie Wood to sign for the Dartford-based club, having previously managed the player at Cray Wanderers.

“Jamie Wood joins the club from Cray Valley,” added the statement.  “Indeed in our last match of the season he skippered Cray Valley whilst his brother Lewis Wood captained the Greenwich team.

“Both players are warmly welcomed to the club.

“Further signings are in the pipeline and more new faces will be announced in due course.”

Greenwich Borough enter their second season of their groundshare at Dartford’s Princes Park Stadium when the new season kicks off on 9 August.

The club finished in ninth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table last season, with 47 points from 32 games.
