Greenwich Borough look forward to their historic day

Wednesday 26th February 2014
GREENWICH BOROUGH are playing a special double header at Princes Park on Saturday as part of the development of the club.

Both matches will be played at home at Dartford Football Club.  The newly formed under 21 team will play at Princes Park for the first time.

They will host their Herne Bay counterparts at 11:30 on the 3G pitch with the club’s first team then taking on Corinthian in the Southern Counties East Football League in the main stadium at 3 o’clock.

“This is a further advance in our groundshare with the Conference Premier club,” said club spokesman Patrick Mahoney.

“The under 21 team was formed less than a month ago and have already played two matches.  In their first game they beat Thurrock’s under 21’s 3-1 and then lost 1-0 to Glebe’s first team, who play in the Kent Invicta League.

“With Borough looking at entering our under 21 team in the NRG Gyms Kent County Under 21 Development League next season and this match against Herne Bay, the current league leaders, will give a good indication of the current strength of this embryonic squad.

“Spectators are welcome to attend both matches and the Champions Bar will be open throughout the day. The catering pod will also be open in the main stadium from 2pm onwards.

“The match-day programme will include information on both matches on this historic day for the club.”

Greenwich Borough are presently in tenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table with 23 points from 17 games.

The club are managed by former Cray Wanderers stalwart Ian Jenkins, who has now taken charge of two games, both ending in defeats to Erith Town and Beckenham Town.

Matt Longhurst brings his Corinthian side to Princes Park sitting in sixth-place, with 34 points from 17 games.
