Greenwich Borough are a pillar in the community, says outgoing secretary

Monday 06th November 2006

Barry Feist has explained the reasons for resigning from his secretary post at Kent League club Greenwich Borough, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Harrow Meadow club have appointed former Slade Green boss Phil Miles as their new manager, with Ray Bagnell as his number two.

Both joined the club as coaches during the close season and have worked alongside two different managers during the course of the season.

“I would imagine that this will be long term but I have not discussed this with the chairman,” Mr Feist said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today.

“I know for a fact that Phil and Ray will continue to push the club forward on the field as they both have a great deal of experience and I am fully confident that they can bring success back to the club.

“Many of the players will be approached by other clubs, but I am again confident that they will not leave the club as they are in a great position in the league table.

“I said in my programme notes not long ago that I feel that there aren’t any teams in this league that are any better than the current Borough squad and fully expect them to be challenging for the major honours come the end of the season.”

Mr Feist, however, tendered his resignation from the Eltham based club last Friday, albeit temporarily.

He said: “The reasons will remain between myself and their chairmen, Tamer and Terry.

“But what I can tell you is that there are issues in my life that need to take priority.

“I know that this has come at a time when the club is going through a change in management but my resignation is not related to this issue as has been rumoured on certain forums within the last week.

“I would like to thank that I have helped to move the club forward from what was a downward spiral.

“Tamer and Terry have accepted my decision and have taken it very well. I had agreed some weeks ago that I would help out with the charity football match and firework display that the club held yesterday and I am glad that I did go along and man the door.

“Greenwich Borough do a great deal for charities throughout the season and I know that the chairmen work tirelessly in ensuring that Greenwich Borough Football Club are a pillar in the community, probably more so than any other Kent League club.

“Finally the club have appointed Mark Kenton as the new secretary and I have agreed to advise Mark with club matters as and when it is needed so in effect I will still be dong things for the club.

“Greenwich Borough is very close to my hear and I have made friends for life in just six months.

“I will also continue to give Borough support whenever I can and will also guarantee that one day I will return to Greenwich Borough as club secretary.”

Greenwich Borough travel to Sporting Bengal United on Wednesday night (7:30pm) in a Kent League Cup group C game.
