It's been a good Christmas so far, says Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander
GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Gary Alexander says it has been a good Christmas so far for his side.
The Eltham-based club sit in sixth-place in the Bostik South table with 48 points in the bag after 26 games.
Lewes sit at the summit with 54 points from 25 games, while Cray Wanderers occupy the second automatic promotion spot with 51 points, but with a game in hand.
Greenwich Borough thrashed Guernsey 4-0 at home on 23 December and followed that up with surprise package Phoenix Sports with a 2-0 away win on Boxing Day, 26 December.
Striker Chinedu McKenzie has now scored six goals in six games since his move to the club from Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United.
“It’s been a good Christmas period so far with wins over Guernsey and Phoenix and we have to try to continue over the weekend with tough games against Ramsgate and Cray,” said Alexander.
Lloyd Blackman has guided Ramsgate into seventeenth-place in the table with 30 points from 26 games.
The Rams went down to a 4-2 defeat on 23 December, but bounced back with a 2-2 home draw against Hythe Town, a side in seventh-place in the table, seven points behind Greenwich Borough.
Alfie Paxman scored both of Ramsgate’s goals against Hythe Town and he has taken his goalscoring tally up to 20 for the season.
“Ramsgate are a side we have played twice already and the results are going our way but as we have seen over recent weeks, they are capable of, on their day, of matching anyone,” warned Alexander.
“We have trained this morning ready to go there and hopefully continue our run going into a massive game on Monday against a quality side in Cray.
“As I’ve said before, these are the games we want to be playing in, Cray are up there for a reason – and so are we – so it should be a quality game.”
Tony Russell’s side are now favourites to land the league title and they were held to a shock 1-1 draw at Molesey on 23 December, before they humiliated basement boys Shoreham 7-0 at Hayes Lane on Boxing Day.
