I just want the boys to perform well and get the right mindset and do the right things on and off the pitch and the results should take care of itself, says Greenwich Borough boss Luke Medley

GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Luke Medley says he will be giving youngsters a chance to impress in the Bostik South East Division this season.

The club are under new owners on and off-the-pitch as Medley takes over from Paul Barnes, who guided the club to a fourth-place finish last season.

Greenwich Borough open their campaign with a home game against their local rivals Cray Wanderers, who are going for the league title.

“It will be a good day, a great day.  I saw the fixture and I was just laughing to myself, typical,” said Medley, 29, a former Cray Wanderers striker.

“They’re a very good side, well-drilled and they’ll be organised. It will be a very, very tough game so we’re preparing for that game on the 11th

“We’re just going to take one game at a time when that league does start. It’s literally one game at a time, we’re not looking ahead anywhere else, just focus on that particular game.”

Medley, who has been coaching for six years and is relishing the challenges ahead.

“We are young, a bit inexperienced but I believe with the right coaching and the right mindset of these boys they can perform on the right platform,” said Medley.

“We’re looking to give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do at this level and as you know people do move on from this level but they can’t think about that now, they have to know where they are, know where they want to be and do what’s required to get there.

“It’s a great vibe (at Greenwich Borough), very young, energetic.  The boys are here quite a lot.  They chair people are fantastic. They want to give people opportunities, like myself because I am young.  I’ve been coaching for the last six years now so it’s a great opportunity for me to see what I can do at this level.”

When asked about his aspirations for the season ahead, Medley, who is currently out with a long-term injury, replied: “I’m just going to take each game as it comes. I don’t want to look too far ahead. There’s positive things to come. I just want the boys to perform well and get the right mindset and do the right things on and off the pitch and the results should take care of itself.”
