Greenways have been around for over 50 season and whilst it would be fantastic to reach the SCEFL Premier, I’m not going to put the club at financial risk in attempting to get there, says manager Rob Jeffery
GREENWAYS boss Rob Jeffery says he is not going to put the club at financial risk by trying to grab one of the four promotion spots in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division.
The club finished in tenth-place last season and begin their new campaign with a home game against Sutton Athletic tomorrow.
Dan Kelly guided the Hextable based outfit to a top-five finish last time out and Jeffery is looking forward to the opening game.
“We’re looking forward to getting going now. Sutton Athletic will be a tough game on Saturday but you can probably ask me that question all season and it will be the same answer,” said Jeffery.
“One of the great qualities of this league is the strength and competitiveness of all of the teams. Most teams are capable of beating each other on their day.
“That’s why with the incentive of four promotion places on offer and everyone will have their eye on creeping into those four places and in that sense we are no different.
“Our aspirations for the season ahead is to continue to improve, to leave the club in a better place than we started the season.
“Greenways have been around for over 50 season and whilst it would be fantastic to reach the SCEFL Premier, I’m not going to put the club at financial risk in attempting to get there.
“If we get there it will be our way and it will also be the most rewarding.”
