We will go to Folkestone as the underdog and give it our best shot and see what happens, says Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander
GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Gary Alexander says his side face a test away to Folkestone Invicta in The FA Cup tomorrow.
Neil Cugley’s side are fresh from their 3-2 win at Tonbridge Angels on Monday, which has his side in eleventh-place in the Bostik Premier, with eight points from their opening five league outings.
“Good game to look forward to, a chance to test ourselves against higher opposition,” said Alexander, ahead of the First Qualifying Round tie at Cheriton Road.
“It’s The FA Cup, so anything can happen. We will go there as the underdog and give it our best shot and see what happens.
“The FA Cup means a lot to our club, like it does every non-league club. It’s a chance to dream and it’s one round closer to the First Round proper and you just never know.”
Cugley, who has been given a boost with Gillingham allowing him to play on-loan defender Finn O’Mara in The FA Cup, told www.folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk: “Everyone’s buzzing right now, and we just can’t wait for tomorrow’s cup tie. It should be a really good game.
“I’m really pleased with the squad we’ve got now. We’ve got quite a few young players trying to prove a point by showing they’re comfortable as this level.
“They’re responding well to what we’re asking them to do in training and they’ve already shown us that they can take some of that out on the pitch and into a game.
“Greenwich have invested in a fair bit of experience. They’re aiming to climb up through the leagues and they’ve got some quality players.
“We’ve had them watched, but I’ve no doubt they’ve watched us too – I’d be very surprised if they haven’t.”
Greenwich Borough, in ninth-place in the Bostik South table, arrive on the Kent coast with seven points in the bag from their four league outings, following their 3-0 home win over Phoenix Sports in their last game.
