Gorman believes his side can win promotion - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS

Monday 04th December 2006

Supporters of Kent League club Erith & Belvedere have launched a website to “make a positive difference” to the Park View Road club, writes Stephen McCartney.

DISA, the Deres Independent Supporters Association, was formed in the summer of 2006 by a group of Erith & Belvedere supporters keen to make a positive difference to the football club and for it’s supporters.

The website, www.disa.org.uk gives further information about the organisation.

It also includes an online shop, which not only makes available DISA services but also range of official club goods, match day programmes from home and away matches, sponsorship opportunities and season tickets.

Mr Ben Dryland, the chairman of DISA, who first watched the Deres in action at their old Park View ground in 1988, told www.kentishfootball.co.uk the outlines of the organisation’s website.

He said: “The intention of the DISA website is purely to act as a stand-alone information source for the organisation - the provision of the latest news and views on Erith & Belvedere Football Club is still very much left to the club’s website www.erithandbelvederefc.co.uk."

Back to team affairs, the Deres welcome Faversham Town to Park View Road in Welling on Tuesday night with qualification into the last eight of the Kent League Cup very much in their hands.

Terry Cordice’s Faversham have already qualified for the quarter-finals but Paul Gorman’s side must collect at least a point to join them.

But if they lose their last group game then Deal Town will join Faversham in the quarter-finals.

Gorman admitted things are going well as his side have kept four clean sheets in his first six games in charge.

“We’ve done well,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.  “We have not conceded any goals in our last two goals and we’ve scored nine goals.

“Confidence is very high. It’s just picking them off the floor as their was no confidence in the side, all downhearted and frightened.

“All I needed to do was to pick them up, they’ve responded and let’s hope it continues.

“I’ve got a good bunch of young boys. They are good enough that’s why their actually playing.”

Gorman, who has a sixteen-man squad, has signed former Kingstonian goalkeeper Alan Hughes from rivals VCD Athletic but shaky goalkeeper Neil Murray keeps his place in the side against Faversham.

Gorman, whose also looking for a striker, added: “There’s not many teams that have played against us that look like scoring.”

The former Charlton Athletic star praised his defence for keeping Slade Green at bay during their 4-0 win at the Small Glen at the weekend.

“What an excellent result,” he beamed. “Very impressed, especially the second half.

“One-nil up, we missed a whole load of chances in the first half. Our strikers were having one of those days when nothing went for them.

“The two centre backs, former Slade Green pair Paul Gross and Lee Morgan, were superb.

“The back four played well in the first half. Everything played up to them they soaked it up and got rid of it.

“Second half we just completely destroyed them. It could have been more than 4-0 but at the end of the day I’m happy with the result.

“The boys did brilliant. Lets hope they keep their heads up and play the way they’ve been playing and express themselves.”

Despite being 15 points behind leaders Thamesmead Town, Gorman believes his side can still clinch promotion into the Ryman League.

He said: “I want to get as far up that league as possible without losing.

“We may nick a draw or play badly and win but as long as we win I’m not bothered. I want to get out of this league this season.”

Austin Berkley (ankle) is still ruled out due to an injury sustained against Sevenoaks Town two weeks ago.
