We’ve played two tough opponents in our league and we’ve got to go to Banstead and believe in ourselves, says Glebe boss Ben Young

GLEBE manager Ben Young says his side will give it all they’ve got during their FA Cup tie at Banstead Athletic on Saturday.

The Chislehurst based outfit made their FA Cup debut on 5 August when their League rivals Lordswood were beaten 1-0 in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Glebe then travelled to Deal Town and fought back from being 2-0 down to fight back to earn a second bite of the cherry to beat their League rivals 3-0 in the replay at Foxbury Avenue.

Banstead Athletic play at the same level as Glebe and are second-from-bottom in the Combined Counties League Premier Division, having collected one point from their three league games but the Surrey side do have games in hand on their rivals.

The A’s defeated Epsom & Ewell (2-1) and Loxwood (6-3) to set up Saturday’s tie with Glebe, with a massive £3,000 up for grabs for the winner of this First Qualifying Round tie.

“We’re still in The FA Cup, they’re in the opposite league to us and it’s all to play for and that’s all I ask for, we give it 110%,” said the former Sutton Athletic manager.

“We’ve played two tough opponents in our league and we’ve got to go there and believe in ourselves.

“No one knows what they’re like, they don’t know what we’re like, so we just go there with the right attitude and see what we can do.”

Glebe travel to Merland Rise sitting in 15th place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected one win from their first four league games at this level after winning promotion as First Division champions by 12 points to Rusthall in Adam Woodward’s only season in charge of the club.
