The chance to play at Wembley at these levels don’t come around often so you have to throw everything at it, says Glebe boss Gary Alexander

GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says The FA Vase means so much to him and his players going into tomorrow’s clash against Newhaven.

The Chislehurst-based club go into the Third Round tie sitting in the top-eight in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 24 points from their 13 league games.

Newhaven, meanwhile, arrive at Foxbury Avenue sitting in seventh-place in the Southern Combination Premier Division table, with 23 points from the same number of league outings.

“We have got a massive game tomorrow against Newhaven for both sides as it’s a great chance to progress in a competition that means so much to managers and players,” said Alexander.

“The chance to play at Wembley at these levels don’t come around often so you have to throw everything at it.

“For us at Glebe it would be the furthest we have ever gone in the competition.

“We’re going into the game and we are playing well and creating plenty of chances.  If I had one complaint it’s we’re not being ruthless enough in front of goal so let’s hope if we get chances in this game we can take them.”

Glebe are 15 points adrift of league leaders Beckenham Town with two games in hand on Jason Huntley’s side.

“We’re sitting in a nice position league wise, although having games in hand you obviously would prefer to have points on the board but for now we need to concentrate on the FA Vase then worry about the league when we next have a fixture,” said Alexander.

“If we can keep picking up points from the games in hand we could end up in a very good position but only time will tell.

“We have to keep the standards high and hopefully that will put us in a good place.  There’s still a long way to go and I’m sure there will be plenty of twists and turns from now until the end of the season.”
