I’m not interested in being a runner-up as we’ve dominated the league table for nearly the entire season and that’s where we want to be, says Glebe boss Simon Copley

GLEBE manager Simon Copley says he wants to be sitting at the top of the tree at five o’clock tomorrow.

The Chislehurst based club are one point behind leaders Bearsted in second-place in the Pain & Glory Sports Kent Invicta League table going into tomorrow’s clash at Foxbury Avenue.

“We are all looking forward to the game tomorrow against a side that always do well and try and play football in the right way, like us,” said Copley.

“I have much respect for Andy (Gardiner) and look forward to seeing him and enjoy our battles as it’s all done in the right way.

“Last time at their place we won 2-0 and I thought we were very difficult to break down which was the foundation of our victory.

“Since that game we have added three quality players including Jordan Johnson, who arrives from Kent Football United.

“I am confident we can repeat ourselves although equally Bearsted have put a very good run together so I guess that’s why we’re the top two at the moment!”

Copley is keen to reclaim top spot tomorrow afternoon and bid for promotion into the Southern Counties East Football League next season.

“In terms of the future we aim to win every game, including the cups we are in and using the squad to its fullest,” he said.

“My hardest job now is keeping players happy but I’m going to need them all if we want success. That won’t be easy but equally I’ve got 17-18 ambitious and hungry players who want the same thing as me and the chairman made the objective clear in his usual unique way!

“We have seven games in February and are looking to get maximum points, there’s no point setting a lower target because we need to win them all to go up.

“I think there’s probably and realistically four or five teams with their names in the hat for promotion but I’m not interested in being a runner-up as we’ve dominated the league table for nearly the entire season and that’s where we want to be.

“I’m sure Andy feels the same, as does Matt at Sheppey, Youngy at Sutton and Kev at Gravesham or none of us would do this.”
