Glebe sack footballer who turned up late for a home game because he left his football boot studs at home

GLEBE manager Fred Dillon has sacked a player who turned up late to a home game yesterday because they left their football boot studs at home.

Fred Obasa has revealed he turned up at Foxbury Avenue 15 minutes late of the meeting time of 13:30, as the part-time footballer explained on social media the reasons behind his late arrival.

“Don’t think I’d be saying this just before Christmas, but this morning I received a text from the manager to say I’m no longer part of the plans at Glebe", posted Obasa, a winger/striker, who has scored four goals for the club this season.

“I was 15 minute late (of the) meeting time as I forgot my studs (and left them) at home, this resulted in me not starting.

“I was obviously upset about it but didn’t say a word,” added Obasa, who admitted he was “speechless” to read that Dillon has told him to leave the Chislehurst-based club.

Obasa came off the bench at half-time during the Foxes’ 2-2 home draw against Sutton Athletic in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division fixture, the ninth-tier of English football.

Non-contracted footballers receive payment if they are in the match day squad of 16 players and club’s tell their players to arrive 90 minutes before kick-off.

Glebe are in seventh-place in the table, having picked up 30 points from their 19 league games and are four points adrift of the play-off zone.

Dillon takes his side to third-placed Fisher next Saturday, 28 December (15:00 kick-off), meaning players have to arrive at St Paul’s Stadium, Salters Road in Rotherhithe for half-past-one.
