Glebe appoint Adam Woodward as their new manager with promotion number one target

GLEBE have appointed their new management team after parting company with Simon Copley and Ian Varley with three games remaining.

The Chislehurst-based club finished their Pain & Glory Sports Kent Invicta League campaign in third-place but that wasn’t enough for manager Copley or his assistant Ian Varley to keep their jobs.

The pair agreed to take charge of the club’s final league game and two cup finals and they completed a cup double by winning the London Senior Trophy and Kent Invicta League Challenge Trophy with wins over Tooting Bec and Sutton Athletic respectively.

Copley and Varley were unveiled as Holmesdale’s new management team on Saturday evening, following the club’s 2-1 after extra time win over ten-man Sutton Athletic.

Adam Woodward, who was in the crowd for both cup finals, has been unveiled as the club’s new manager.  He will be assisted by former Bromley defender Sam Long and former Eltham Palace assistant Charlie McCarthy.

Peter Dale retains his goalkeeper coach and first team fixture’s secretary role at the Foxbury Avenue based club.

“Adam has won both step six and step five as a player with Phoenix Sports,” said Glebe chairman Rocky McMillan in a statement.

“He has been assistant manager at that club, having previously managed the under 21s.

“Adam will be assisted by Sam Long and Charlie McCarthy.

“Sam has played several seasons in Step 1 and 2. He will be a fantastic asset as a player as well as his management role.

“Charlie has managed in Step 6.  He is a fine young coach and together with Adam and Sam bring youth yet experience to Glebe.

“Peter Dale, Glebe stalwart remains as goalkeeping coach as well as first team fixtures secretary.

“I am really excited by the appointments. During the interview process, in which we saw some very experienced and qualified applicants, the ambition, desire and qualities shown by the new team was a joy to see.

“Glebe FC has one of the best facilities in Step 6 and promotion remains my number one target for next season.”
