COVENTRY CITY have recalled midfielder Josh Eccles from his loan spell at Gillingham.

The 20-year-old signed for the Gills on 17 September, just a couple of days after playing against the club for Coventry in an EFL Cup tie, which Gillingham won on penalties.

During his time in Kent, Eccles made 14 appearances, his final outing coming in the 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday

“Josh is a young man who has been superb for us and we all thank him,” said Gillingham boss Steve Evans.

“He will go back to his parent club a better and more experienced player. He has improved significantly and we all wish him the very best.”

Meanwhile, Gillingham have confirmed the results in their latest round of Covid-19 testing.

“The football club can confirm that all first-team players and coaching staff have tested negative for Covid-19,” said a club statement.

“The latest round of testing, which was mandatory across the EFL, took place earlier in the week.”

Evans is preparing his side for the visit of Burton Albion in the EFL League One on Saturday.

Gillingham are in fourteenth-place in the table with 26 points from their 20 league games, while Burton Albion sit at the foot of the table with 13 points from their 22 games.
