Gary Johnson appointed on the Ryman League board

GARY JOHNSON has been appointed to the board of directors of the Ryman Football League at their Annual General Meeting in Brighton last Saturday.


Newington-based Johnson, 47, is the vice-chairman and secretary of Ryman League Division One South club Whitstable Town.

After many years involvement both in grass roots football administration in Northamptonshire prior to moving to Kent in 1987, and having refereed throughout the non-league system, Mr Johnson will undoubtedly continue to work tirelessly for both the club and League.

“I’m delighted to be appointed to the Board of such a prestigious competition and thank clubs for their support since I ceased referring and became involved at Whitstable Town,” Mr Johnson told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“I’ve been fortunate to meet some wonderful and colourful people in my time as a referee.”

He added: “I hope to be able to serve the League, their Member Clubs with the same vigour and commitment I am known for whilst being able to call upon my business knowledge to actively assist grassroots football develop.”

A club statement added, “Gary developed a style of refereeing and being known for his consistent application of law; often with forthright views, sincerity and honesty, a passion that now bestows all at Whitstable Town."
