Frozen February strikes another victim
FROZEN February has put paid to yet another match as Sittingbourne’s game at Dulwich Hamlet on Friday night has been postponed and re-arranged for next month, writes Stephen McCartney.
That means ALL ELEVEN games this month, involving Kent sides, have been postponed due to the heaviest snow fall in our area for eighteen years.
Looking forward to Saturday, www.kentishfootball.co.uk will endeavour to keep you posted throughout Saturday morning with details whether our games will go ahead or not.
Clubs are advised to contact us on 07979 418 360 (please do not email) with details of postponements to enable us to keep supporters informed.
www.kentishfootball.co.uk has yet decided on which two games to cover (Stephen McCartney and Mike Green) and decisions will be made as soon as we know which games are actually going ahead.
But Friday night’s match at Champion Hill is the first game to fall to the wintry blast this weekend.
Remember, South Eastern Trains ran NO services at all on Monday and a limited service on Tuesday - and hundreds of Kent schools closed on both days.
A statement issued by the south London club, explained why tomorrow night’s game was postponed so early.
It read, “Due to the adverse weather conditions tomorrow night’s game has been postponed this afternoon with the agreement of both clubs and the Ryman League.
“The Champion Hill pitch is currently under a six inch layer of snow which is refusing to thaw with
the surrounding terraces and approaches to the ground still icy.
“With further sleet and snow possible on the way and night time temperatures tomorrow evening forecast to drop down to -3c (28of) in Central London, an early decision was taken to postpone the match.”
The game has now been re-arranged for Tuesday, 24th March (7:45pm).
