Folkestone sign Colchester striker on loan
FOLKESTONE INVICTA have signed striker Tom Webb on a one month loan deal from Championship side Colchester United this afternoon.
The deal will see Webb have the chance to feature in seven matches for the Seasiders whereas at Colchester he would have only have had the chance to participate in one over the next month.
Manager Neil Cugley said earlier in the week he was keen to bolster his squad with the season entering a pivotal stage as the Seasiders look to seal their Ryman Premier League status for next season and finish the season on a positive note.
The teenage striker, who has netted five goals for Colchester’s reserve side, goes straight into this weekend’s squad with league leaders Chelmsford City at the Buzzlines Stadium. It is likely he will take the place of the suspended Leigh Bremner in attack alongside Lloyd Blackman.
With James Everitt fit again after a recent back strain, Cugley also has a number of options for the centre of the park whilst defender Roland Edge makes his long awaited return to the side after a knee injury which has kept him out since before Christmas. He is likely to slot in at the back in place of the suspended Frankie Chappell which should see in form youngster Ben Sly retain his place in the side at right wing back.
Webb was given a professional contract by the Essex club in the summer of 2007.
Having come through the ranks at Layer Road, Webb has scored goals at all levels he has played at and has been a regular for the U’s reserves.
Webb has been described by the Essex club as having "guile on the ball and has often seen him turn provider for other players as well."
