Fleet Ladies: It is our intention to continue to rise as high as possible

Monday 10th April 2006

Gravesend & Northfleet Ladies’ team were without a game yesterday, but with only two matches of their London & South East Regional League campaign remaining, the Kent side are firmly in third place, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Fleet have collected 44 points during their first campaign in this league but are well behind two Sussex sides at the top of the table.

Lewes are sitting proudly at the top with 52 points, closely followed by their Whitehawk rivals, who are just one point behind - with two games in hand.

Gravesend & Northfleet end their campaign with two away games. Starting with a trip to fourth placed side Woking on Easter Monday (at Redding Way Playing Field) and
at Crowborough Athletic on Sunday, 23rd April (2pm).

“We have had a fantastic few seasons ensuring that we represent the whole club of Gravesend & Northfleet with a professional and ambitious attitude,” said club spokesperson Tina Martin.

“We gained promotion over the last three seasons every year and are currently sitting in third place in our regional league, which is the fourth division overall nationally.

“It is our intention to continue to rise as high as possible and now we recognise the need to grow as a club to support the ladies first team in the future.”

It’s an exciting time for Fleet Ladies, and they’ve just secured an Awards for All Lottery grant for £4,982.

“We are looking for new players for next season to enhance the current squad, introduce reserve team football and junior sections,” said Martin.

“We are hosting an open day for anyone interested in getting involved to come along, meet members from the club, receive some free coaching and play some matches”

This is open to women and girls of any age and any ability, so whether you want to try out for the first team, be part of a new squad or simply come along for a morning or football, then this session is for you.

Saturday 6th May 2006 10.00 - 12.30 at Northfleet School for Girls, outside on the football pitches, simply turn up register and get involved.

The club recognise that they need to fill roles to run these extra teams and are keen to hear from any players or adults that would like to help out and get involved in a variety of club roles including, coaches, managers, and administrative volunteers.
