Five star Fleet
Tuesday 15th August 2006
Sunday saw another 5-star performance from Fleet ladies, winning 5-2 for the second week running in their preseason warm up match against higher division Colchester United Ladies. The game was played in 3 thirds to give both managers a chance to rotate their squads and look at different team options.
Fleet manager Valter Antunes told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: “I am very pleased with the progress of the team and as a squad we have more strength in depth this season. “We have a lot of work to do but are very close to being ready for the new league season.”
Fleet ladies felt it was a comfortable win and a match where they proved fitter and sharper than the opposition dominating most of the game, and creating some good passing movements to create several scoring opportunities.
Goalscorers on the day were Striker Jade McDermott hitting a hat-trick, Becky Merritt with a superb solo effort strike from midfield, and defender Bex Pattenden scoring direct from a free kick. As the season draws closer the ladies side are working hard to prepare for the London and South East Regional League opening game on Sunday 3rd September.Fleet spokesperson Tina Martin added: “Pre-season has so far gone well for the ladies with an opening draw and two wins at their new home venue at Fleet Leisure Ltd, and with each match team performances are improving and new signings gelling in to the squad.”
The ladies team have two further weeks to get it right before the season and two more friendlies against Dagenham and Redbridge (Thursday 17th August 6.30 kick off) and West Ham (Sunday 20th August at home with a 2pm kick off) to finalise preparations.
