It’s The FA Cup! If that doesn’t lift the spirits of every football fan in the country, nothing will, says Fisher boss Allan Fenn

FISHER manager Allan Fenn says he is proud of his players’ at the end of the opening week of the new Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division season.

The Fish sit second in the table with four points on the board after opening with a goal-less draw at Deal Town on Saturday, before beating newly-promoted side Welling Town 3-1 at St Paul’s last night.

“First and foremost, I’m proud of the lads. Their commitment, attitude and current fitness levels are all superb,” said Fenn.

“We should have won at Deal last Saturday. We felt we were the better team and played the better football but credit to Deal, they stood strong and they proved a tough test for us.

“Last night’s win against Welling Town was important for us because it showed the hard work we have all put in and to click so quickly is testament to my coaches and the players who are more than willing to listen and learn.

“We scored some good goals and played some nice football and although we had a dodgy 20 minute spell int eh second half, we looked comfortable and were by far the better side.

“Once again, credit where it’s due and (Welling Town manager) Danny Wakeling changed things at half-time and his team gave us a good scare at times.

“One thing I have learned already in the first two games is our opponents have shown strength and character but we have more than matched that so all in all, it’s been a positive start.”

Fisher travel to west London to play Hanworth Villa in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday.

Hanworth Villa are in thirteenth-place in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division table after drawing 2-2 at Knaphill on the opening day of the season and then going down to a 2-0 home defeat to Southall last night.

“It’s The FA Cup! If that doesn’t lift the spirits of every football fan in the country, nothing will,” said Fenn.

“I am proud to have played and managed in this famous competition and have always enjoyed the occasion and I am sure our lads will do too but to lead Fisher FC in The FA Cup is an honour and privilege and I’m hoping we can create more days like this to come.

“We can only dream of great days and cup upsets and in time we intend to make our dreams come true but right now, it’s about taking every game one at a time.

“We are a team very much in its infancy so at the moment it’s all about consistency and fitness, of which so far, looking good.

“As always, we will be fully prepared and ready for the challenge.

“We go into the weekend full of confidence and belief in our ability, so I’m positive we can get the right result on Saturday.”

Fenn thanked the Fisher fans for turning out in their numbers during his first two games in charge of the Rotherhithe-based club.

“It’s amazing and it gives us so much pride, confidence and belief going into every game,” added Fenn.
