We still have a lot to play for, says FC Elmstead boss Fabio Rossi

Thursday 29th December 2016

FC ELMSTEAD boss Fabio Rossi says he has strength-in-depth to cope with unavailable players over the Holiday period.

FC Elmstead are sitting in 12th place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with a playing record of six wins, four draws and nine defeats.

They travel to Bayliss Avenue to play a Sporting Club Thamesmead side that are still rooted in the bottom two, with three league wins, four draws and 11 defeats.

FC Elmstead have picked up six points from their last four league outings, while The Acre have won two and drawn one and lost twice since Owen Jones teamed up with Lee Hill in the dug-out.

“We are really looking forward to the Bank Holiday fixture against Sporting Club Thamesmead,” said Rossi.

“We feel our form is starting to get back to where it should be after a dip.  We have been battering teams of late but just not getting the points which the performances have deserved.

“After losing to Sporting Club Thamesmead in The FA Vase our form dipped and it's only recently that we have got back on track.

“They have a new manager and some new faces in their squad, so it should be an interesting game.

“We have a few away on holidays but have enough strength in depth to cope with that.”

The Cockerels still have plenty to play for, according to their manager.

Rossi said: “We still have a lot to play for.  Our aim is still to try and get enough points to enable us to gain entry into The FA Cup next season. We were bitterly disappointed to miss out on that this year.  We are currently running at 1.1 points per game and we need to raise that to 1.6 per game by the end of the season to give us a chance.

“We also have the quarter-final of the London Senior Trophy in early February, so we are looking forward to that too.

“Finally, it’s simply to keep the players’ happy. In the main we have been able to do that but that generally comes with winning games.”
