Loui Fazakerley lands Welling United job

Wednesday 22nd April 2015

WELLING UNITED have appointed Loui Fazakerley as the club’s permanent manager within 24 hours of former boss Jamie Day having his contract terminated at Ebbsfleet United.

The Wings have been speaking to Fazakerley regarding the role and an agreement was reached at the end of the weekend.

Fazakerley, who has been in a caretaker capacity since the start of March, will be in charge at Park View Road next season, regardless of what division the club will be in.

The Park View Road outfit can secure their Vanarama Conference status with a home win over Southport on Saturday (5:15pm)

“I would like to thank the board for putting their faith in us and giving us the opportunity to manage the club on a full-time basis next season,” Fazakerley told the club’s website.

“I say us because I wouldn’t be able to do this job without both head coach Matt McEntegart and first team coach Paul Barnes. They are the brains behind all the work we do on the training field, so I prefer us to be known as the management team.

“All three of our skill sets compliment each other and we all bring something different to the table. I truly believe the three of us can create something special here at Welling, starting with securing our safety this Saturday!

“I really hope the fans get right behind the team this weekend and help to push us over the finish line against Southport. Then we can look forward to another season in the Conference Premier next season.”

General manager Barry Hobbins added: “The board have been impressed by Loui and his team since they have taken charge of the club.

“They have displayed plenty of passion and qualities that we look for in our club, and we wish him every success in the role. I’ve enjoyed working with Loui and know that his appointment will be popular with our loyal fans.”

Ebbsfleet United parted company with Day, Barry Ashby and Dean Frost yesterday afternoon, while sitting in ninth-place in the Vanarama Conference South with 57 points and they complete their disappointing campaign with a home game against Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.

Day, who replaced Steve Brown while the club were sitting in the play-off positions, go into their final game of the season sitting 20 points behind champions Bromley, who won the league title following their 3-0 win over Weston-super-Mare at Hayes Lane last Saturday.

The Stonebridge Road outfit issued a brief statement on their club website yesterday afternoon.

“The club announced that manager Jamie Day has been issued notice to terminate his contract.

“Barry Ashby and Dean Frost have also had their contracts with the club terminated with immediate effect.

“A further comment will be made in due course regarding the future football management structure at the club.”
