Faversham Town fans' plan to donate funds for ground development fund
Friday 01st July 2011
FAVERSHAM TOWN Independent Supporters Club, which has been dormant since 2005, is calling time and attempting to wind itself up at a special meeting at Salters Lane on Tuesday 11 July, writes Stephen McCartney.
The meeting will follow straight after the Ryman League Division One South club’s annual general meeting, which is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
The supporters club, known locally as FTISC, was set up initially as a pressure group in the wake of Faversham Town’s collapse in 2003.
It quickly gained 300 members, even though it had no team to support, and the once proud Salters Lane ground resembled a bomb site.
However, with the revival of the football club which recommenced play for the 2005-2006 season, FTISC’ s work was effectively over.
FTISC secretary Roger Bennett said, “There has been no activity within this supporters club for several years now, so the time seems right to formally wind things up.
“The proposal is that all funds held be passed to the Salters Lane Restoration fund, which is an account dedicated to ground improvements at Salters Lane and administered by Faversham Town FC.”
Mr Bennett confirmed that anyone who joined FTISC as a member in 2004 is welcome to attend and vote at the meeting.
The Lilywhites finished their inaugural Ryman League Division One South campaign as the highest placed Kent side last season and they welcome Blue Square Bet South side Dover Athletic to Salters Lane on Saturday, 9 July (3pm).
