We want a FA Cup run because it brings a buzz and excitement and you never know you could get Liverpool, says Faversham Town boss Sammy Moore
FAVERSHAM TOWN manager Sammy Moore says he is dreaming about a FA Cup Third Round date against Premier League powerhouses Liverpool in January.
The Lilywhites suffered relegation from the Isthmian League South East Division last season, facing a drop to the ninth-tier alongside Corinthian and play-off losers VCD Athletic.
Moore’s men put in a very dominant performance to beat VCD Athletic 3-0 at Oakwood on the opening day of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division season.
“I’m delighted to get off to a winning start,” said Moore.
“It was a very dominant performance. We scored three great goals and kept a clean sheet, so it was a perfect start to a league campaign.”
Corinthian are at the summit after 90 minutes of league football after beating Kennington 5-1 at home, while Faversham Town are in second-place.
Faversham Town go into Saturday’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at Eastbourne Town as clear favourites.
Eastbourne Town are in fifteenth-place in the Southern Combination League Premier Division table, having opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Hassocks before losing 2-1 at home to Sean Muggeridge’s Crowborough Athletic, the early league leaders after two outings.
“Eastbourne Town is a tough draw away from home. There are no easy games in The FA Cup,” said Moore.
“We have had them watched twice now, so we know exactly what to expect.
“We are playing in the best competition in the world so we will be going there to win and hopefully have a nice run in The FA Cup.
“The FA Cup gives us a chance to test ourselves against the best and if the draw is kind to you then you can definitely have a good run.
“We want a FA Cup run because the board and the fans deserve that. It brings a buzz and excitement and you never know you could get Liverpool away or at home.
“Our ambitious this season is to get promoted and win as many cups we are entered in.”
The winners will hold home advantage against Merstham (Isthmian South East) or Raynes Park Vale (Isthmian South Central) in the Preliminary Round on Saturday 19 August.
