We’re having to do a rebuilding job because none of us were happy with last season, says Faversham Town joint-manager Phil Miles

FAVERSHAM TOWN joint-managers Phil Miles and Danny Chapman have made their first summer signings.

The Lilywhites finished in the bottom three in the Bostik South East Division last season, having collected 37 points from their 36 games but finished 10 points clear of a Greenwich Borough side that were the only club to be relegated from the division.

Central midfielder Mitchell Chapman has agreed to sign from their league rivals East Grinstead Town, while goalkeeper Simon Overland returns for his third spell at Salters Lane.

Fans’ favourite, left-back Jamie Maxted, speedy right-sided player Donvieve Jones and midfielder Michael Freiter also return to the club.

Miles said he is expecting to bring in new players next week.

“We’re having to do a rebuilding job because none of us were happy with last season,” Miles told www.favershamtownfc.co.uk.

“So while there will be some familiar faces, we also need to bring in new players to change things.

“Supporters will need to be patient because we need to make sure we bring in the right people.

“We know other teams have been out there revealing their players in public already, but we’ve been keeping our cards close to our chests while we put the squad together.

“We won’t panic and we won’t sign players just because they’re available.  They have to fit in with our plans, our budget and what we want to do here.

“It will be a different sort of squad to last season. We will be younger with more legs and we expect the team to be more competitive.”

Faversham Town open their pre-season campaign with a visit from League One side Gillingham, who visit Salters Lane on Tuesday 9 July (19:45).

“We’ll have a squad for the Gillingham game but I expect the squad to evolve during the season as other players on our list become available,” added Miles.
