Fans aim to raise £1,000 for Childrens' charity

Thamesmead Town supporters will be taking on their counterparts from rivals, Greenwich Borough on Sunday, in aid of charity, writes Stephen McCartney.

The winners of the supporters’ clash will get to lift an exact replica of the World Cup, which will be auctioned in aid of the Childrens’ Heart Foundation after the match. There will also be a martial arts demonstration.

Thamesmead supporters’ representative, Kevin White told www.kentishfootball.co.uk:  “This will be an excellent day at Thamesmead and an excellent day for the charity.

“We’re looking to get our revenge on the Borough supporters after they defeated us earlier in the season, but overall, the day is about football supporters coming together and having fun for a worthy cause.”

Greenwich Borough supporter, Mickey Cooper, agreed, adding: “It’ll be a good day. We’ve worked hard raising money for Childrens’ Heart Trust and hope that we end up raising our target of £1,000.”

Keith McMahon, Thamesmead’s first-team manager, welcomes a Chatham Town side to Bayliss Avenue on Saturday (3pm), knowing that Greenwich Borough recorded a shock 6-1 win over the Medway side in midweek.

Needham Market visit on Sunday (noon) before the charity match that kick’s off at 3pm.

Thamesmead’s last warm-up match before they welcome Croydon on the opening day of the Kent League season, is against Kent County League side Bearsted, on Tuesday, 31st July.

Thamesmead are one of the better footballing sides that play in the Kent League and are worth watching.

And the Bayliss Avenue club have reduced their admission prices for these games to  £5 (adults), £2 (concessions) and children go FREE when accompanied by an adult.
