FA CUP SECOND ROUND DRAW: Dover Athletic pull home draw against Bees or Shots
Sunday 07th November 2010
DOVER ATHLETIC have been rewarded with a home tie in the Second Round of the FA Cup - where they welcome either Brentford (League One) or Aldershot Town (League Two) to Crabble, writes Stephen McCartney.
Martin Hayes’ heroes won the BATTLE OF KENT at Priestfield Stadium yesterday, courtesy of Adam Birchall’s 20th goal of the season and Luke I’Anson, which kept the pressure on under-fire Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler.
The Whites were pulled out of the hat by Gillingham supporter Kate Garraway, of ITV’s Daybreak fame, who admitted “I’m pleased to be here doing the draw, I just wanted my team to be there!”
Brentford and Aldershot Town played out a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park, with former Gravesend & Northfleet striker Charlie MacDonald scoring Bees’ 20th minute equaliser.
Dartford and Ebbsfleet United will also be home in the Second Round - but they must win their replays on 16 November.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams paid Tony Burman’s side the biggest compliment, admitting “we got away with murder,” as a leveller from John McCombe just seven minutes remaining denied Dartford a famous victory. Elliot Bradbrook had given the Kent side the lead at Princes Park.
Ebbsfleet will welcome highflying Blue Square Bet Premier side AFC Wimbledon to Stonebridge Road after playing out a goal-less draw at Kingsmeadow Stadium yesterday. Both sides had a man sent off and if the Fleet beat Terry Brown’s side then they could face their old foes from Stevenage.
Graham Westley’s side were held to a goal-less draw by MK Dons at Broadhall Way yesterday.
