FA CUP FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW:

Monday 11th October 2010
KENT LEAGUE heroes Hythe Town are just one win away from making it through to the first round proper of the FA Cup – and Scott Porter’s men have been drawn at home in the last qualifying round to boost their chances, writes Stephen McCartney.

A goal from captain Dave Cook secured a famous 1-0 win away to Ryman Premier League side Concord Rangers at the weekend, and their reward will be a home tie against Bury Town (Ryman Premier) or Staines Town (Blue Square Bet South) at Reachfields Stadium on 23 October.

Club secretary Martin Giles told www.hythetownfc.co.uk: “In one of the most memorable and emotional afternoons our football club has experienced, the entire playing and management squad did the travelling Hythe support proud.

“A fantastic performance, with the management doing their homework and the playing seeing through the plans on the pitch – as Hythe knocked Ryman Premier side Concord Rangers out of the Cup on their own patch.”

Hythe have defeated Bookham (4-0), Deal Town (4-2), Epsom & Ewell (2-0) and Erith & Belvedere (4-1), before their heroics in Canvey Island to knock Concord out and as a result have banked the club an impressive £17,250 in prize money from The Football Association.

It would be a fine achievement for the club if they do make it through to the first round and if they can beat higher league opposition they will bank a further £12,500 and the national media coverage too will be welcomed.

Mr Giles added that the money will come in handy, “with talk of a possible facelift to the clubhouse and maybe even a TV appearance!

“Well done lads – it’s down to you that all this may be possible!  You did us proud!”

The only other FA Cup tie in Kent that day will be at Stonebridge Road when Ebbsfleet United will face their Blue Square Bet South rivals Boreham Wood.

Another all Blue Square Bet South tie will see Dover Athletic travel to Farnborough.

Martin Hayes’ side defeated the Hampshire outfit 6-3 when the two sides met at Crabble in September.

Two Kent sides need replays on Tuesday night to see if they can make it through – although both Bromley and Dartford conceded late penalties at Chelmsford City and Canvey Island respectively on Saturday.

If Bromley get past Chelmsford at Hayes Lane then they will travel to Hayden Bird’s former club, Carshalton Athletic, who play in the Ryman Premier League.

Tony Burman will take his Dartford side to Suffolk to play Leiston if they can beat Ryman Premier Leaguers Canvey Island at Princes Park tomorrow evening.
