Everyone has a clean slate to impress me during pre-season, says Seager

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Marc Seager is inviting five new players to pre-season training next month as he aims to build on the foundations laid towards the end of last season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Belmont Road outfit report back to pre-season training on the first day of July and Seager can’t wait for their second Ryman League Division One South campaign to kick-off.

Despite losing one player, defender Steven Lloyd, who has signed for Ryman Premier League side Ramsgate, hopes are high for a play-off chase next term.

Seager, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight, revealed his plans for pre-season training.

“I’ve got four or five new faces turning up,” he said.

“I don’t want to mention any names because I don’t want any other clubs knowing about it.

“We’ve been working hard in the pre-season and looking forward to coming back on July 1st.

“The last 15-16 games (of last season) gave us a fantastic platform in which to build for the new season and that’s what we’re looking to do.

“It’s important that we get off to a good start next year and if we do that I think we can upset a few people.”

Seager revealed that anything up to sixty players will be reporting to their first pre-season training session when the first and reserve sides train together.

“As a manager you’re always looking to strengthen the side,” said Seager. “We’ve got a fantastic squad at the club at the moment and you never stop looking to improve it.

“Things are looking good for us at the moment and the players can’t wait to start because the end of the season form gave them a massive lift.

“During pre-season we train as a club. The way I work as a manager, pre-season is a clean slate for everybody and it’s a perfect opportunity for the players who were maybe on the sidelines last year and it gives them an opportunity to prove to me their good enough to be in my team on August 16th.
