Erith Town ready to stand and deliver
Sunday 27th February 2011
GROUND improvement works - costing around £44,000 - finally get underway at Erith Town’s ground tomorrow.Barring any last minute hitches, work will commence with the installation of covered stands over two blocks of seats at Erith Sports Stadium, Avenue Road, which is also used for athletics.
The work is expected to take at most two weeks and when completed the covers will afford covered seated accommodation for 312 spectators.
This along with the existing covered area for 100 standing spectators will provide more than enough seats/space for protection from the elements for not only those attending Kent League football matches at the stadium but to the community as a whole in other sports and functions taking place there throughout the year.
Other improvements around the ground include barriers at each end of the ground, screening on the car park fencing, enlarged dug outs and the installation of a turnstile will also be done in order to bring the ground up to the required ground grading.
The club issued the following statement on it’s official club website www.erithtownfc.co.uk: “These installations have been financially supported by the Football Foundation, who have contributed 47% of the funding required for which Erith Town Football Club are most appreciative.
“Thanks to for the support, guidance and approval of Bexley Council and the Stadium management who have helped secure this project.
“The biggest thanks must go to Erith Town’s chairman Albert Putman, who has been the driving force behind this ambitious project and were it not for his commitment, time and effort spent securing this deal and contract then this long awaited dream would never have taken off.
“The balance for these improvements have been generously donated by OPUS Air Conditioning (Sales) Limited of Dartford and an official opening for the new stand is planned and will be announced in due course.”
The Dockers were held to a goal-less draw away to VCD Athletic in what was one of only three Kent League games to be played yesterday.
Tony Russell’s side are three points clear at the top of the table with 38 points from 20 games - but everyone else in the title race have games in hand.
The Dockers travel to Beckenham Town on Saturday, for a place in the Kent Senior Trophy final against Tunbridge Wells or Holmesdale up for grabs.
