FA Cup run will put our players in the shop window, says Erith Town joint-manager Joe Ford
ERITH TOWN joint-manager Joe Ford says his players can put themselves in the shop window if they knock Horsham YMCA out of The FA Cup today.
The Dockers will play newly-promoted Ryman Premier Leaguers Burgess Hill Town at home in the First Qualifying Round on 12 September if they get past their Sussex opponents today.
They will be hoping to keep up their good run of form, which after an opening day league defeat has seen them win their last three games, which included their 5-1 win at Selsey in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
“We are all looking forward to the game on Sunday,” Joe Ford told www.erithtown.co.uk.
“It's a massive opportunity for the club to once again earn some money but for the players as well as it gives them another chance to create their own bit of history.
“As you know, the winners of the tie will be rewarded with a home tie against Burgess Hill and that's the sort of level that I'm sure a lot of our boys aspire to play in so they certainly have something to play for and create a bit of a shop window for themselves.
"It’s going to be a tough game, we know that - Horsham YMCA are a decent side. We travelled down to West Sussex on Tuesday and watched them play against East Preston at home and they run out 5-4 winners.
“Despite the score line they actually controlled the game from start to finish and never looked like losing. They have some experienced players and attack very well so we will need to be wary of that and of course we will have to be at our very best if we want to get anything out of the game.
"The game is being played on a Sunday so we are hoping for a good crowd and that naturally creates a bit of an atmosphere which would be great but our main concern is to be competitive throughout the game and represent the league and club as best we can.
“We are not thinking ahead, just taking one game at a time - the lads trained really well this week and I'm sure they will be raring to go come 3 o’clock.”
