We are an ambitious club and it is time to put the Erith name positively on the map – with everyone’s support locally we can achieve this, says Erith Town chief Mark Deveney
ERITH TOWN have confirmed that they will be returning to the Erith Stadium next season.
The Dockers last played at the venue at Avenue Road in 2013 and have hired Cray Valley’s Middle Park Avenue ground in Eltham and VCD Athletic’s Oakwood ground in Crayford since playing at the venue more suited to athletics.
Erith Leisure Centre manager Matt Webb said: “We are delighted to welcome Erith Town back to the stadium. We have fantastic facilities here and we look forward to the community getting behind The Dockers this forthcoming season.
Erith Town’s managing director Mark Deveney said: “It has always been our ambition to take the club back to Erith and be a focal part of the local community.
“We would like to thank Matt and his team for their welcome and also to the local community have been very enthusiastic about our return and it is our hope that we will play a genuine active role within Erith itself.”
The club have become partners of the Erith Fun Day, which takes place on 7 July and the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division outfit will be active in and around the community as much as possible.
“With that in mind we are in discussions with local schools to build positive relationships,” added Mr Deveney.
“The charity day in April highlighted to everyone what a community club like ours can achieve and we hope that this success will be replicated on the pitch and also by the Youth football section we are putting into place.”
Upon their departure from Oakwood, Mr Deveney added: “The club would like to publicly thank VCD chairman Gary Rump and his colleagues for all their help during our stay.
“We are an ambitious club and it is time to put the Erith name positively on the map – with everyone’s support locally we can achieve this.”
Erith Town have finished in the bottom four in their past two seasons in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.
