Erith Town joint-boss Joe Ford has grounds for concern ahead of Lordswood visit
ERITH TOWN joint-manager Joe Ford feels frustrated with the prospect of having another training session tomorrow instead of playing high-flying Lordswood.
The Dockers are in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table on 28 points from 17 games and host James Collins’ Lordswood that are in the top five with seven wins, eight draws and three defeats in the league.
But Ford revealed that the pitch at Cray Valley’s Badgers Sports Ground is currently waterlogged and the game is in doubt.
He said: “Very much looking forward to our game tomorrow against Lordswood – if it goes ahead.
“We haven’t played now in just under three weeks and unfortunately it is looking like that may continue as the pitch at Badgers is holding a lot of water at the moment and with more rain scheduled or tonight and tomorrow I wouldn’t bet on it going ahead.
“We have, however, prepared right for the game as we always try to do and trained on Wednesday as usual.
“Lordswood have been flying of late and come to us with a great record in the league.
“James has gone in there and changed it round and we know we are in for a tough game – if it does ahead – so it was important to keep the lads sharp and ticking over as they are itching to play now.
“If the game doesn’t go ahead we’ll be in training and on to the next one.”
Greenwich Borough announced today that they have signed a 30-year lease to play at Badgers Sports Ground, leaving Erith Town homeless and having to find a new ground.
When asked about the situation, Ford replied: “Plans are in place and hopefully we will have something to announce in the next month or so.”
