Dulwich Hamlet pay tribute to the fallen on Armistice Day

DULWICH HAMLET fans and officials will hold a non-denominational memorial service in the boardroom at their Champion Hill Stadium on Armistice Day.

Wreaths will be laid at the Club War Memorial on which takes pride of place on the boardroom walls, which was instigated in early 1920’s by the Club Founder, Mr. Lorraine ‘Pa’ Wilson.

It is also a time to remember the many unknown Hamlet fans who gave their lives for their country in both World Wars.

Chairman Liam Hickey said: “We hold a small service every year and though there are not many of our fans still with us who can recall those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Second World War it is important that we never forget we owe these brave young men who never returned home from the battlefields of Europe to Champion Hill.”

Mishi Morath, committee member for community initiatives added: “All of our fans are welcome to attend. At our last home match their donations to the tins of the Dulwich branch of the Royal British Legion, coupled with other fundraising from the club, raised just over three hundred pounds was raised for them. Little things like this are what make it so special to be a Dulwich Hamlet supporter.”

The service is in the boardroom on Friday at 7.00pm and the Ryman Premier League club have opened up the clubhouse for the evening so that those who attend can enjoy the England versus Scotland World Cup qualifier live on the television afterwards, that kicks off at 7.45pm.

The Hamlet are at home to Chesham United in The Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round on Saturday and there will be a one minute silence to remember the fallen prior to kick off at three o’clock.
