Dover romp to victory in table-topping showdown
Dover Athletic stormed four points clear at the top of the Ryman League Division One South table - with a game in hand - after beating nearest rivals Tooting and Mitcham United tonight, writes Andrew Stucken.
A bumper crowd of 1,215 were thoroughly entertained by two sides who played positive attack-minded football.
The Kent side went into a 42nd-minute lead when James Dryden drilled in from 15 yards after getting on the end of a Lee Browning long ball.
But Paul Vines cashed in on some sloppy Whites defending to slot home on the stroke of half-time.
It was a big blow for Dover Athletic to lose their lead so quickly but Frannie Collin restored the advantage after a nicely-worked move 13 minutes into the second half.
Matt Bourne threaded a nice pass to Dryden, who charged into the penalty box and cut the ball back for Collin to get in front of his marker and slot home.
And Dryden sealed the points in the 90th minute when he got on the end of keeper David Wilkinson's long punt upfield and fired home past onrushing Tooting keeper Dave King.
