Monday 30th June 2008

DOVER ATHLETIC chairman Jim Parmenter has revealed that negotiations with a potential new sponsor are progressing well, writes Justin Allen.

The Crabble chief said at the weekend that he was hopeful that the Ryman Premier League newcomers could be in a position to make an announcement this week.

"We're very near to agreeing a deal with a new sponsor, which is excellent news for Dover Athletic,” Mr Parmenter told www.doverathletic.com.

"Obviously, we were disappointed to lose our partnership with SeaFrance but are equally delighted that there has been interest from other parties who want to work with us.

"We're talking to a well-known firm and hope to be in a position to make an announcement during the week. But, of course, until everything is 100 per cent agreed and signed we cannot reveal who the company is."

Work on the Centre Spot is now hitting a crucial stage and Mr Parmenter says that he is hopeful that the complex is still on time to be completed late August/early September.

He said: "The coming weeks are critical. We're delighted with the progress so far being made - but a lot of things are to tie together in the couple of weeks. Hopefully, that will all go smoothly so we can meet the completion deadline of late August/early September."

He also said that player-manager Andy Hessenthaler will be backed in is bid to bring in further new signings.

The Whites chairman said: "Andy's got his budget and there's still some money left for him to bring one or two more players in.

"It's no secret that we're in the market for a striker and Andy and Darren (Hare) will be looking at a few players in pre-season. We're very relaxed about the situation. We're in no hurry to complete a deal with anyone. We'll be patient to ensure we get the right players in."
