Dover Athletic accept third bid for star striker Adam Birchall

Monday 11th July 2011
DOVER ATHLETIC can confirm that they have today accepted a bid from Gillingham for striker Adam Birchall, who now has permission to speak to the Medway club, writes Justin Allen.

The striker asked chairman Jim Parmenter if he could speak to Gillingham. Dover Athletic informed the League Two club that they would have to match the bids that were accepted from Swindon Town and AFC Wimbledon.

Mr Parmenter told www.doverathletic.com: "Paul Scally (the Gillingham chairman) has now met our valuation for the player. The deal will go through if Adam agrees personal terms with Gillingham.

"I can confirm Gillingham's payment will be made up front - which was an important detail of the deal - and importantly they have met our asking price.

"Adam showed a desire to go to Gillingham so after the great service he has given us, and our gentleman's agreement to let him talk to Football League clubs, we have granted him that wish."

Birchall, 26, who scored 45 goals last season, will be a dad in the coming weeks - and Gillingham is his preferred option because he lives in Maidstone.
