Goalkeeper Lee Worgan leaves Dover Athletic
CASH-STRAPPED Dover Athletic have confirmed that goalkeeper/coach Lee Worgan has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and has left the club to pursue a full-time teaching career.
The 36-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions for the National League club after joining from Maidstone United in October 2018 and has left the club to sign for Vanarama National League South side Chelmsford City.
“I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the football club from the chairman (Jim Parmenter), directors, staff and my teammates for all they have done for me – I’ve loved every minute of it,” Worgan told Dover Athletic’s website.
“A huge thanks goes to Andy Hessenthaler for bringing me to the club. It was my first step on the coaching ladder and being part of a management team and I’ll be forever grateful to him for giving me that opportunity.
“I have learned so much during my time working with him and his staff. It has been a fantastic experience but during the months of lockdown I have had time to evaluate my life and what’s best to get the security I need with a young family now – the teaching role gives me that.”
Meanwhile, French winger Nassim L’Ghoul has also left Crabble after his contract was also cancelled by mutual consent.
L’Ghoul, 23, made the move to Dover Athletic last summer after leaving Welling United and scored three goals in 33 appearances in all competitions on the Kent coast.
