Dolby slams Piscina over his decision to leave
Ryman Premier League side Tonbridge Angels have today unveiled the signing of Adam Greenway from Blue Square Southern outfit Bromley, although Angels favourite Luke Piscina has decided not to stay and fight for his place this season.
Manager Tony Dolby admitted he’s disappointed with Piscina after he's decided to leave the west Kent club for the second time in 2007.
"I spoke to Luke and told him that this year I wanted him to step-up in pre-season as I felt this was the year he could make a starting place his own," Dolby told www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk.
"However, it seems Luke has decided to drop down a level or two rather than come back and be a part of the club.
"I have tried everything I can to keep him but sadly it seems he is content to play in a lower league."
Although the club has heard nothing officially from Piscina, it is believed the fans favourite has re-joined Kent League neighbours Sevenoaks Town, where he had a loan spell earlier in the year.
But Dolby was able to announce another new addition to the squad as Adam Greenway has joined from Bromley and will be with the team when they return to training this evening.
Greenway is a young player who can take up position at either the back or as a striker, much similar to Ray Powell.
Greenway mainly appeared for the play-off winners at the back end of last season. However, he showed his goalscoring prowess netting four goals in under 40 minutes in Bromley’s London Senior Cup Semi-Final victory.
Dolby was also able to reveal that he is close to making one more major signing, which he feels will leave the club in a good position to start the new season.
"I’m pretty happy with what we have right now," he said. "From last year we have lost Aaron Kerr, Alex O’Brien and Luke.
"However, we have added Tommy Tyne (from Dover Athletic), James Donovan (Margate), Anthony Storey (Lewes) and now young Adam, plus of course, the major boost of persuading Jon Main to stay."
The Angels boss revealed that he would be running his eye over a number of players that had contacted the club asking for a trial, including some from overseas, and whilst he wouldn’t rule out further signings if players that could enhance the existing squad became available, his pre-season plans have gone well.
Dolby issued a plea for help in setting up what he felt would be a major aid to his and assistant manager Mike Rutherford’s plans to make the coaching set-up more professional.
"I would like to try and video every game so that we can review the tapes on a Sunday and then use the footage to show the players at training," said Dolby.
"Sometimes unless they see what we are saying with their own eyes they tend to be a bit disbelieving."
The scheme would be for private use and not available for fans thus avoiding potential clashes with the Ryman League’s proposed TV plans.
The club are therefore looking for a volunteer or two who is willing to film this season’s first-team matches.
A free season ticket is on offer to anyone willing to come forward and be part of the club’s progression.
