We're looking forward to the next few months to see if we can continue to improve with this young team, says Deal Town boss Derek Hares

DEAL TOWN manager Derek Hares says he wants his young side to improve during the second half of the season.

Deal Town are in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 29 points from their 18 league outings.

They suffered a 4-1 home defeat to tenants Canterbury City in their last game last Saturday.

“Although we lost our last game before Christmas to a Canterbury side who played very well on the day, overall we have to be pleased how we have performed up to this point,” reflected Hares.

“Of course, there have been games that we could have played better but we are a very young side so you expect that from time to time.”

Hares takes Deal to the side immediately above them in the table tomorrow.

Bearsted have collected two more points but they have played four games more.

Hares said: “We play at Bearsted, another difficult game.  Of course, our aim now is to push on in the league to gain as many points as possible.

“We are currently on 29 points, which is a decent return.  We are still involved in the League Cup away at Sutton Athletic in the next round. It’s always good for everyone at the club to have a good cup run.

“Myself and coach Steve King work hard with the lads and are looking forward to the next few months to see if we can continue to improve with this young team.”
