We want to finish the season well, says Deal Town boss Derek Hares
DEAL TOWN manager Derek Hares says his side have drawn too many games this season.
The Charles Sports Ground side are sitting in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 45 points from their 31 games – but Hares admits their nine league draws have been too many.
Deal Town host eleventh-placed AFC Croydon Athletic tomorrow.
“On Saturday we have another difficult game at home to AFC Croydon Athletic, our first home game for a month,” said Hares.
“Our last three were away to Rusthall, Hollands & Blair and K Sports, where we have taken seven from a possible nine points with some decent performances against teams who have been fighting for points.
“We now have just seven games left to play and of course we want to finish the season well.
“We are in eighth position at the moment and would at least hope that we can maintain that position or improve on it.
“Overall, I don’t think we have been consistent enough this season, which is maybe understandable with such a young team.
“We have drawn far too many games but I feel we have a good squad of players here who give their all in every game and with the age of the team and one or two additions, we can continue to progress and build on what we already have.”
With a FA Vase Semi-Final Second Leg taking place in Faversham tomorrow, Hares added: “I would just like to say well down to Canterbury and Cray Valley and wish them good luck on Saturday.”
